The Clubhouse

The clubhouse is located on “The Avenue of the Artists”—officially South Camac Street, the last surviving wood-paved street in Philadelphia.

The entrance foyer features numerous caricatures of Inn members by artists Alfred Bendiner and Wyncie King, and artworks by Howard Pyle and R. Tait McKenzie. A large, fine period bookcase displays occasional changing exhibits. Recently published books by members are on display and available for borrowing.

The Inn’s literary and art collections are displayed on the second floor. The ever-growing library consists of books by and about members. A marble fireplace from S. Weir Mitchell’s former home on Walnut Street graces the south end of the large room. Most of the Inn’s programs are held in this comfortable space. With the exceptions of some fine Franklin-related works, all of the art is by members.

The clubhouse banishes stuffiness and pretension, while maintaining an atmosphere of traditional Philadelphia. It offers its members use of a telephone, high-speed Internet access, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. It welcomes the spouses and guests of members. It is above all a warm and comfortable haven, one where those who wish to avoid the hustle-bustle of downtown Philadelphia for a while can enjoy a leisurely meal and excellent conversation with fascinating fellow Innmates, or just spend a quiet hour or two reading and relaxing.

The Clubhouse is also available for members’ private parties. Contact the Club Steward, Shefqet Osmanollaj, to make arrangements at 215-732-0334 or through the Meal Reservation page on this website.
