Tuesday, Feb. 6th — Buffet Supper,starting at 6 PM.
Speaker is Penn ProvostWendell Pritchett, on “The University in the 21st Century.”

Dr. Pritchett is an interdisciplinary award-winning attorney, legal scholar, and urban historian, whose research examines the development of post-World War II urban policy, in particular urban renewal, housing finance and housing discrimination. He earned his Ph.D. in History from Penn in 1997, and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1991.As Mayor Nutter’s appointee, he was vice chair (2008-10) and chair (2010-11) of the Redevelopment Authority of Philadelphia, and also served as the mayor’s appointee to the School Reform Commission in 2011-14. He chaired the board of Community Legal Services of Philadelphia in 2005-08 and was co-chair of the World Class Great Philadelphia Initiative of the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia.

Speaker is Penny Balkin Bach, executive director and chief curator of the Association for Public Art.

Ms. Bach will give an illustrated talk entitled “Public Art in Philadelphia: Then and Now.” She will discuss public art in Philadelphia going back to 1872, and current trends. Among recent projects of the Association were the “museum without walls” that placed contemporary art in our city parks, and the “fireflies” project that gave couples rides through our city streets in pedicabs decorated with multicolored paper lanterns. Ms. Bach has participated on numerous local, national, and international arts juries and advisory panels. She chairs the city’s Public Art Advisory Committee.

Friday, Feb. 16th — Monthly Club Dinner, starting at 5:45 PM
Speaker will be Jo Holz, Philadelphia-based author of “Kids Grow Up, the Path from Howdy Doody to SpongeBob.”

Ms. Holz will give an illustrated talk on the role of children’s television as an electronic baby sitter. She examines the cultural changes that have shaped and transformed children’s TV up to the present. She holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Penn’s Annendberg School, served as a senior VP at Nielsen and a TV executive at NBC asnd Oxygen Media, and has taught at NYU, Rutgers, and Columbia Universities.
